Day 4,404—I hate Being Sick—
Start time: 6:05 a.m.
Weather: Low 60s
I was fine when I went to sleep last night, but this morning, after I got up, I couldn’t move for over an hour, and then I was just sick. I really didn’t want to take a day off today, but I didn’t see any other option. I decided to run a mile, hoping I would be able to do more later. I felt okay enough after taking the trash cans outside.
I didn’t know what to do today besides taking a bath and trying to mentally make myself feel better. Eventually, I started prepping for races and watched a video for the Vero Beach Octopus 100! It is going to be a challenging 100-mile race; it is unlike any other I have done before. It is formatted like I would do a run from my house. You go out for an arm (12-14) miles and come back to base. The race consists of 7 long arms and a short finish. The only for sure aid is in the center where you come back after each arm and camp.
In some ways, it will be nice to have a base camp and not be doing the same loop repeatedly, but in other ways, it will be tough going that long without aid and having to carry so much water. I love how different the challenge will be from anything I have done before. It won’t be cold, technical, or hilly, but it will be hot, hot, hot, with only a guarantee of water every 12-14 miles.
I should be more focused on the races coming up before then, but this one will be different. I didn’t feel like doing much today, but I decided I would at least air my tent out, so I moved slowly but was able to put it up and air it out. I hope I start feeling better soon.
