Day 4,410—Running Hills—
Start time: 11:19 a.m.
Weather: High 70s, Max wind 15.4 mi/h, Some Rain, Humidity 72%
I decided to run hills after first thinking I would do a couple of miles, but then I felt like seeing how far each section of the two hills right down the road from my house was. I wasn’t moving that fast, but I felt good while I was running today. My leg wasn’t bothering me.
I have been so tired today, but also energized by the thought of camping at future races. There is a lot to plan for with Vero Beach. I will have to see if I still have that ice vest. I am going to need to train carrying enough water to last the 12-14-mile sections, but it is exciting to think about the challenge. I want a basecamp as comfortable as possible, so I am thinking about buying an inflatable chair and another fan. I have these three small fans I can use, but I am looking at fans with tanks to put cold water in, so you can have a kind of AC. I am thinking of buying one of those for the race. As much as I don’t like wasting time at aid, only having 7 stops total makes it easier to take longer stops. I will likely want to hydrate for 10 to 20 minutes in each section, just to make sure I can get back to a base level. I will carry a lot to drink, but when I return to camp, I want to sit down with a fan and drink a lot of water. Usually, as soon as I do what I need to do, I leave and don’t sit around that long. But I think this race, I am going to need to take a longer break after each arm. I just need to think more about the Mohican. I should be taking it more seriously. It is just different because I have run the 50-mile and races like it before, so I am not as worried about running it, but a 100 miles is never easy, and this trail isn’t easy either. I might be looking forward to camping more than the running aspect right now.
