Day 4,416—First Day of Break! 6 More Runs until the Mohican 100!—

Start time: 8:53 a.m.

Weather: Mid 60s, wind 2 mi/h, Humidity 86%

I tried out the three new water flasks today. I want to get used to running like I plan to do at the Vero Beach. I think I will use both a 2 Liter Water bladder and two water flasks. I will use hydration with the water flask and have just water in the water bladder. If that ends up not being enough, I can easily bring an additional two water flasks that I put in my hydration vest. The new issues with this plan are getting used to using the new flask and bladder, and carrying all the extra weight.

Tomorrow, I will most likely do closer to 10 miles. I don’t want to forget to rest before the Mohican, and I wanted to do a decent run today, but I also want to have a light week of stretching and taking baths next week. Everyone will be home on Monday, which gives me roughly three days to prepare for the race. I won’t be able to do much on Monday, but I should be able to pack some each of the other few days. I feel pretty good about what I have done to prepare for the race, and I am looking forward to the experience and having a solid month of running in the heat and humidity here before I go to Florida. I feel good about my preparation for the Mohican. No 100-mile race is ever easy, and I expect this one to be tough and full of surprises. The Vero Beach is a little scarier only because I have never done a race like that one before. The Mohican has a decent amount of elevation, somewhere between 12,000 and 14,000 feet, which, if I remember correctly, is a lot of rolling hills, and the weather could be surprising. It might be cold on Saturday night. I am going to attempt to pack light, just have my essentials in two drop bags, but I will plan to have more stuff with my chair food and more extra clothing.

There were a lot of runners out today, but it felt like we were running in one big cloud. I tried to enjoy it. I have been tired and keep forgetting that I am done with work. It still feels so unreal, but now I feel overwhelmed thinking about the different projects I want to attack. I think for the next two weeks, I might just decide now to take it easy and focus on enjoying the Mohican. With all these races if my plan goes according to plan to run a 100-mile race in every state it is unlikely I will do any of these races again any time soon, so I want to do more to embrace the uniqueness of each state and each race. There is a lot to like about the Mohican.
