Day 4,415—Last Day! 7 More Runs until the Mohican 100!—
Start time: 5:19 a.m.
Weather: Low 60s, wind 4.7 mi/h, Humidity 84%
I have so many mixed emotions going into the last day of the school year. Part of me is happy I made it! It is the ultimate Friday, and this summer I have slightly more time off than I did last summer because school will start either one or two weeks later. Also, this is the first summer in at least 4 years that I am not taking classes, and the first summer in 5 years that I am not taking classes or attending any conferences. There are so many different things I need to do, but I have to take things one at a time.
This coming week, I will mostly be focused on prepping for the Mohican 100. There is a decent amount to do, and I am excited for the race. I bought a few more things for camping and some stuff for the Vero Beach race, too. I feel more confident about how I will battle the heat and dehydration. I also feel good about the Mohican after just doing a race, so I have an idea about how camping is going to work. I am such an over-packer in general, but I feel good about how I am going to pack for the Mohican. The one in Florida will be a unique packing challenge in how much food and coolers I will need to bring. For that race, I will have to plan on eating some food along the way, but I hope not too much, since it just complicates things. But one thing at a time, I was also spending a lot of time thinking about the pool house/office space I plan to build in my backyard. We’re short exactly one room in my house, and so instead of installing an extension or moving, I want to build a little house equivalent to the size of a studio apartment, somewhere around 200 square feet, for me to move my office space to. It won't be easy, but it would make it easier for our kids to have their own rooms. They don’t need them now, but they will roughly 7-8 years from now. A lot can change in that time (or is it 6-7 years?).
Today’s run was easy and uneventful. It was crazy to see how early the sun is coming up now. I wonder if I will need a headlamp at the start of the Mohican. The race starts at 5 a.m. I didn’t really need my headlamp this morning. I can start to try to do more runs close to 5 next week to see. It usually doesn’t get bright enough until closer to 5:30, but I don’t know. I might bring my lighter one and plan to drop it at the first drop bag, which wouldn’t be so bad. Only having two drop bags seems nice in some ways, but I have to figure out how much space I will have at the start/finish to set up an area to put my stuff. I wish I knew someone doing the race. Maybe I will look through the registrations today and see if anyone I know has signed up.
Happy Friday everyone! Today is the Friday of all Fridays!
