Day 4,430—Unofficial Official First Long Day Since the MO 100—
Start time: 8:21 a.m.
Weather: Mid 70s, wind 5.8 mi/h, Humidity 77%
I wanted to run for 1 to 2 hours and avoid the hills. Mission accomplished with this run. I don’t love spending a lot of time on Grant’s trail, but it is flat, and I am still dealing with pain from the race. Once I reached the end of the trail, I stopped at the Perennial on the Trail to check the hours. I have this fantasy about running for a long time and going there afterward. The sign says it opens at noon, so I could go there after a long run someday.
When I made it to the end of the trail, I turned around and ran back, walking some of the way after I got a Powerade Slurpee from Quick Trip. My leg was hurting a bit, but it had gotten much fainter than yesterday. I don’t usually go this way, but as I turned to head home, I took Watson, which, for the longest time, didn’t have an adequate sidewalk. However, I noticed today that they had put in about 90 percent of this sidewalk from where I was standing to my house. The section they hadn’t put in was a nuisance, but I liked running on a sidewalk on that section. For the longest time, I would run on the less-busy neighborhood roads, but people are less likely to look for me there, so they end up scaring me, even though, in general, it is not as loud.
I was thinking about all of the things I am thankful for that have changed in my area, and the sidewalks are at the top of the list. And the new sidewalks are so much wider than the older ones put in a million years ago. I finally started writing about the MO 100. I wrote the section before the race, before I wrote this today. I am debating publishing it with this, but part of me wants to work more on it as a cohesive piece before I start putting it up, but who knows. I might change my mind tomorrow. Doing a part of each day had its advantages because I was using the time I had already been setting aside to run. I also made progress towards working on the video, and I will do more tonight! It is slow going but I am also trying to avoid the time off work.
