Day 4,450—Detraining with Garmin—
Start time: 8:02 a.m.
Weather: Low 70s, wind 7.2 mi/h, Humidity 92%
I looked up what Garmin means when they say I am “detraining.” I found that Garmin says that when you are doing significantly less work than you usually do, i.e., it is notifying you that you’re getting out of shape. This is fundamentally not true right now in my training, so it is a little jarring to see that a 42-mile week so far and an 80-mile week last weekend are considered “significantly less” compared to what I usually do, but there you go. Ignore the stats! That’s what I keep telling myself because they usually aren’t super helpful, and they make me upset. I feel good about my training right now. I am intentionally taking it easy on pace this week, even though I want to get at least 60 miles in.
My shoulders have been peeling today! I cannot remember the last time I was so sunburnt that I started peeling, but there you go; I hope I avoid getting burnt in Florida! It is supposed to be about 20 degrees warmer next week, which is great news for helping me acclimate to Florida. If that happens, the weather in St. Louis will be almost identical to Florida's leading up to the race. I have been working on my car this week, and it is almost ready for the 16–18-hour car ride to Florida! Obviously, I still have a lot to do to prepare, but each day I have been feeling a little more confident about the challenge.
Also, I love the old-style lights from the picture I am posting today. I sat there and meditated for 8 minutes and the whole time I was just thinking about what would make the best picture.
