Day 4,454—a Million Times Hotter than it Shows—
Start time: 7:41 a.m.
Weather: Low 80s, wind 5.4 mi/h, Humidity 83%
It was so unbelievably hot today. I had to stop to drink water after only 4 miles! I would not have made it home without stopping. This is insane! I sweated like a pool of water when I sat down outside after running, dreading the news about the Supreme Court decision.
Birthright Citizenship is upheld! Along with some not great Supreme Court decisions, this one just seemed so problematic and foundational to the country, yet three Supreme Court justices have acknowledged that they cannot read the plain language of the Constitution that guarantees birthright citizenship; really, I should count the one justice who didn’t believe it was in the Constitution but did acknowledge it was in federal law. This should scare every American: they have elected officials who have appointed justices who don’t care what the Constitution says, but instead make decisions based on political allegiance for personal gain. I used to think that this case would be an obvious decision, but who knows what these justices will do? They have made so many decisions that take away basic human rights and violate what is in the Constitution. They’re objectively bad for the country and have no place in positions designed to make judgments based on objective evidence. Roberts, I keep going back and forth on, but the three everyone knows who I am talking about have consistently made decisions that violate human rights with little regard to the rule of law. I read that POTUS has already said something like, “we can remove birthright citizenship through legislation!” And, I am just like, “Yeah, no duh that’s how this country works through passing bills, not through dictatorship!” Maybe he just watched School House Rock and learned how bills become laws.
