Day 2,693 —Us v. Them— with my PICTURE of the Apotheosis of Saint Louis

I took a picture of my spider friend before I went for a run this morning. At first, I did not see her; she was not in her usual spot, but then there she was a few inches higher than she usually is. It is difficult to get a good picture of a spider, maybe if the spider was bigger, but if that was the case, I would not want to have my face so close to it.

I used to fear spiders, and I still am cautious around them; I never had bad dreams about them, but I would jump with fright if I saw one in the basement as a kid. I still remember one that was as big as my hand in our basement. My dad came and tried to kill it for me, but he missed, and it ran away. Now, I am glad he missed, yet when I was kid the thought of the spider still running around the basement scared me.

I don’t know when I first started realizing that no animal or insect is out to get me. They are just there, and I am there too, and if you expect there to be a fight when you see one, usually there is; yet, if you give them their space, they leave you alone. I don’t like certain types of bugs in my house, but that is why I like to keep some spiders around.
