Day 2,694 —What Happens in a Day— with my VIDEO UPDATES LIVE from the RUN

My goal was to run or at least stay up for a full 24-hours, but I only made it to hour 17, which was a lot more difficult than I thought. I didn’t stop because I was tired, but I am sure that was part of it. I was keeping on pace and doing fine all the way to mile 72 when I stopped. The shooting pain in the palms of my feet were getting to me. When I came home and did an update, I knew I needed to mentally rally or I wouldn’t make it, but what happened was I got the chills from being cold and wet all day, and that was it. I knew I would stop. I took a bath hoping that might help. I stayed up for about an hour and went to bed.

I had a lot of great things happen before that. I wasn’t even sure how many miles I would be able to do. My wife asked me how many I thought I would do, and I told her between 50-80 miles so 72 feels like a good number. It was tough, but I think I will be able to improve from here. The huge blisters on the bottoms of my feet certainly made things difficult, but also, I was dehydrated, and some of the food I ate made me feel awful. Watermelon is my favorite food during a race by far. I ate almost entire huge watermelon in the late afternoon.

I feel mixed about this attempt but overwhelmingly positive. This is my longest run ever! And the longest I have stayed on my feet. I am going to rethink my approach for next time.

I knew it would be difficult for me to run all day and write anything down, so I made these video updates during the run instead.
