Day 2,719 —Walking Backwards while Speaking Calmly — with my PICTURE of CLOUDS over the HIGHWAY

Almost October! I cannot believe it. The first holiday is coming up and fall is creeping in on us. I woke up late, so I had to cut my run short. I went across the street and was running through the neighborhood over there, and then an angry dog barked at my incessantly. It was the same lot, the same house that has consistently had dogs out that aren’t in a fenced in area. I thought they had an electric fence at first, and maybe they do, but they don’t turn it on or it is broken (I don’t really know)? Their dogs have aggressively approached me a half of dozen times. I always do the same thing: walk backward and speak calmly, “I am not going to hurt you. It is okay. I am a friend. You don’t have to worry about me.”

I can feel the fear in the rapid barking and nervous pacing. The fear is so big in the dog’s world that it has the potential to make me afraid too. The dog kept following me down the street, 50 meters away from the dog’s lot. It continued to follow me. “I am not going to hurt you. I mean you no harm,” I spoke quietly.

The dog looked up at me again and paused before continuing to bark. He looked away and turned around.

I hope I get a chance to do another run later.
