Day 4,244—Cars Running with Nowhere to Go—

I got back from my run feeling a little disappointed that we didn’t get more snow. What we got looked pretty good on the trail I ran today, and I am such a sucker for the snow on a pond with a bridge. The quiet plus the stillness gobsmacked me. I love the subtle white lines and the dozens of thousands of crevasses for the snow to sit on, but I wish there were more of it to enjoy. But I am glad there is not for everyone who must get to work this morning, and the people living on the streets—where do they go?

When I had run less than a quarter of a mile, I realised my headlamp wasn’t on. Normally, it is pitch black at this time, but this morning, there was so much light bouncing around. I wondered, when I had run through the night in the snow, what it looked like. I have done at least three night runs in the snow that I can think of, and I remember always having to wear a headlamp, but maybe that’s because I am usually out in the woods.

I was surprised by how hot I was getting in my jacket—even though it was in the 20s, below freezing, in the single digits with wind chill. That Pot 200-mile jacket is so warm! I have yet to wear it and not feel overdressed.

I am getting closer to a birthday run plan! I am leaning away from doing a full 100-mile personal run, but I am going to do at least 40.

I had my car running to melt off the ice and snow by the time I made it back. My car still looked pretty nice when I returned, so I left it on, but now I don’t have to go into work; I just got the notice that we are working from home today, and I am in my bathrobe, and my car is still running.
