Day 4,496—Just Before the Sunrise—
Start time: 5:32 a.m.
Weather: High 70s wind 4.7 mi/h, Humidity 84%
It is a good thing I went into work yesterday with low expectations because when I got to my office, I saw a trash can filled with water blocking the door. Inside, the ceiling tiles are soaked and broken on the ground, and water is everywhere. There is also furniture that belongs to the social worker scattered about. When I talked to a few people, they said it has been reported, and someone will supposedly be there to fix it today. It was still dripping in my office when I left. Yesterday was one of two days that I have to work in my office, and it needs a lot of work. I had a couch and a table break last school year, so I need new furniture and to rearrange things, but I wasn’t able to do any of that yesterday. However, I was able to make my calendar! I had a parent meeting that I thought was odd to have on the prep day, but I read the file; it seemed like a tough case, but the person who showed up wasn’t the person in the file; they just had a similar name!
There was a time in my life when these incidents would have enrage me, but at this point, the choices people in the district make lack so much insight that I wonder if they’re really putting me on. I don’t know what to expect today, but it has got to be better than yesterday, right? Or is it possible the rest of my office is flooded? Only time will tell. The good news is that this morning was lovely and I had a lovely run watching the sunrise with the rest of the world slowly getting up. I am going to miss this when I am running earlier after school starts. I was thinking today when that would be. I might try to keep getting up a little earlier each morning to help me get there. At the latest, I need a 4:30 start time during the regular school year. The good news is that I don’t have any late-night classes this year!
